It is often a misconception that men and women experience thinning hair for the same reasons. When in fact the primary cause for hair loss in men is a substance that is primarily only found in men. So what is the cause of female hair loss? Do the same treatments work? How do you stop thinning hair in men? These are all questions we’ll answer in the rest of this article, for now just keep in mind that the cause and solution for men’s and woman’s hair loss is not the same.

Stress, Hormones and More

Stress can contribute to hair loss in all people. Also particular medical troubles and health issues can also cause men or women to lose hair for no other apparent reason. These types of hair loss are often short lived and not permanent. What we’re more interested in is the type of thinning hair that causes premature balding from the front to the back of the scalp.

Surprising enough hormones are at the center of discussions for what causes thinning hair in women and men. For men it’s testosterone and women it’s estrogen. Testosterone is converted to a substance known as DHT. This substance then reeks havoc with your hair follicles causing them to shrink and eventually be unable to grow hair at all. In women the exact relationship between estrogen is not completely known. How ever many doctors prescribe estrogen supplements and topical treatments for hair loss in women.

Since each cause of hair loss is different it makes sense that the same treatment can work for both. Most male hair loss treatments target DHT. They either reduce how much of it is produced in your body or they stop it from attaching itself to the scalp and hair follicles. Either method won’t work for women since DHT is not a cause of hair loss. There is far less studies done on women’s hair loss so there are not as many alternatives for treatments to stop thinning hair and stimulate new growth.

Treatment Alternatives

There are a couple of thinning hair products available online that work for both women and men. Provillus is a mix of oral and topical treatment. They offer a men’s and women’s version of their product. Nisim, a topical hair loss treatment manufacture claims that their hair loss shampoos will work for men or women in the same time frame.

If your hair is thinning or falling out, you are probably anxious to find out why. Is hair loss due to stress, heredity, or some other factor, the answer “yes” to all three?

Male and female-pattern baldness is usually inherited conditions. These tend to cause hair loss in men at the top of the head. The sides and back of the hair may remain in many cases. In women, women-pattern baldness tends to occur at the top of the head, with gradual thinning of hair.

Many treatments can help slow hair loss these conditions, or ever hair transplant. Many simply accept the loss of hair, especially in men, which is quite common. In women, this hair loss is less socially acceptable.

This brings us to the looming question, or not stress can cause hair loss? You see, stress is often referred to as the main cause of baldness, which many people believe that this is accurate. The fact is that stress is a cause of baldness, so you can blame your job or your sports team, if that makes you feel better, but not the main cause. Although stress is a cause of baldness, is seen only as a contributing factor, because there is a cause that affects more suffer hair loss.

Baldness can be caused by several factors, with more than 50% of males of a certain lasting balding or thinning by middle age. Women also suffer from hair loss, and about 35-40% of women will suffer some kind of balding or thinning by age 60. The most common cause of hair loss is pattern baldness. Pattern baldness alone affects more than 40% of the male population. Pattern balding is easy to explain – is a genetic predisposition – develops naturally.

Realizing the stress related Hair Loss Problem: Hair loss due to stress can occur as late as three months after suffering a stressful period, therefore, may not be easy to connect the stress and hair loss occurrence, but you may want to ensure when you go through a period stressful that you provide the same and sometimes extra care with your hair in order to keep your locks.

If you are experiencing hair loss, suddenly think back and consider what you found that you can be affected enough to change their lifestyle and / or eating habits that can, in turn, have affected your hair.

The way men and women experience hair loss pattern is very different. Men tend to experience thinning hair in certain sections or patches on the scalp and that is why men often result in the ‘monk’ effect, i.e. balding on top, with hair still growing on the sides and rear. Women tend to lose hair like around the scalp, so instead of having a visibly bald patch, a woman can actually lose more hair than a man, but seems to have a full head of hair.

Pattern baldness is by far the most likely cause of hair loss, but there are a number of other known causes. The other causes of balding are credited for these small percentages of occurrences, and in many cases are the easiest to prevent, detect or even reverse. Other known causes of balding are hormonal imbalances (especially in women) illnesses, bad diet, lower hygiene, drug abuse and last but not least, stress. Again, stress is a matter of indisputable known Balding.

Stress related baldness has a scientific name – Telogen Effluvium. This type of baldness can also be caused by experiences such as trauma, birth, puberty, major surgery and even severe chronic illness. Telogen Effluvium is characterized by abrupt hair loss caused by an interruption in the normal hair growth cycle. Stress and trauma cause large numbers of hair follicles simultaneously entering a resting phase. After a while, the hair follicles will enter a growth phase, and the old hair will be ejected out of the follicle by a new hair is formed beneath it. The result is a time of falling hair, and is usually self-correct, but if stress is constant, then this type of hair loss can become chronic and lead to more prevalent Balding.

Hair Loss Other factors: There are other factors that can cause hair loss, including but not limited to: * Disease * Hormonal changes * Pregnancy, childbirth and birth control pill use * Nervous habits * Chemotherapy

If your hair is thinning, or if you are experiencing hair loss and looks abnormal (i.e., if you are in their teens or 20s, it is a strange pattern, etc.) is a good idea to see your doctor to determine the cause.

If you’re one of the thirty million ladies who are searching for the cause of hair loss in women, don’t be discouraged there is help for you to get back those lovely tresses.

Because I am a woman and I know how important hair is to the female population, I know if you are losing your hair, despair can set in really fast. The expression, “having a bad hair day”, is not just a random utterance, it is a nightmare that you fear won’t go away.

When you first discover you have a serious problem, your first thoughts can be horrendous. Thoughts like, I’ll be ugly the rest of my life, I’ll never be able to look in the mirror again, nobody will like me, I’ll never leave the house again, and so on and so on.

Hopefully those thoughts settle down and you begin asking what is the cause of hair loss in women. By asking that question you can start down the path toward understanding the underlying cause and seek treatment.

Once you discover the reason your beauty is being threatened, you can look at the ways to fight back. Before we look at the whys of hair loss, let’s take a moment to look at how hair grows into the beautiful tresses in the first place.

On the average, hair grows about a half inch a month. Each strand lives anywhere from 2- 6 years then falls out, and is replaced by another strand of hair. This cycle normally continues well into our golden years.

As the body ages, so does the hair. It’s not uncommon in the senior years to find your hair lose it’s thickness and fullness. In a perfect world the natural cause of hair loss in women is aging.

But we all know we don’t live in a perfect world. So let’s look at the other reasons for the loss of hair. If you don’t know the underlying reason, you won’t know how to go about getting those tresses back. Read through the following cause of hair loss in women before you seek treatment:

· Pregnancy and childbirth · Thyroid imbalances · Cancer and the treatment of the disease · Lupus · Syphilis · Menopause · Genetics · Prescription drugs · Tumor on the ovary · Tumor on the adrenal glands · Stressful lifestyles · Scalp infected with ringworm · Burned scalp

Some of the above reasons are temporary or will have obvious treatments. Some you may not even know you have, so it is critical that you see your medical doctor if your hair is falling out. If you discover one of the illnesses above is why your tresses are falling out, you need to get treatment for that disease.

Studies show 95 % of female hair loss is due to hereditary or genetic causes. You may have heard of Female Pattern Baldness. The scientific name is Alopecia. The good news is this is treatable.

Check with your physician. If he or she gives you a clean bill of health as far as the above diseases are concerned, fortunately the cause of hair loss in women for you might be genetic, as in Female Pattern Baldness. Your hair can grow back again. It just needs a little help from a nutritional supplement.

Don’t panic another day. Check out the web site listed in my bio section for more information. Don’t despair; there is hope.

While there has been speculation about a connection between early-onset androgenetic alopecia and heart disease, a review of articles from 1954 to 1999 found no conclusive connection between baldness and coronary artery disease.

One theory, advanced by Muscarella and Cunningham, suggests baldness evolved in males through sexual selection as an enhanced signal of aging and social maturity, whereby aggression and risk-taking decrease and nurturing behaviors increase.

Beards and a full head of hair were seen as being more aggressive and less socially mature, and baldness was associated with more social maturity.

Research indicates that susceptibility to premature male pattern baldness is largely X-linked. Large studies in 2005 and 2007 stress the importance of the maternal line in the inheritance of male pattern baldness.

Research in 2007 suggests another gene on the X chromosome, that lies close to the androgen receptor gene, is an important gene in male pattern baldness. This gene is also involved in a type of baldness associated with mental retardation.

The amount and patterns of baldness can vary greatly; it ranges from male and female pattern alopecia (androgenic alopecia, also called androgenetic alopecia or alopecia androgenetic), alopecia areata, which involves the loss of some of the hair from the head, and alopecia totalis, which involves the loss of all head hair, to the most extreme form, alopecia universalis, which involves the loss of all hair from the head and the body.

A common myth about male-pattern baldness is that you inherit baldness through your mother’s male relatives. Actually, baldness can come from either side of the family, or both.

Many companies have built a successful business selling products that reverse baldness, by allegedly regrowing hair, transplanting hair or selling hairpieces. The general public has become accepting of the shaved head as well, but female baldness is less socially acceptable.

The trigger for this type of baldness (called androgenetic alopecia) is DHT, a powerful sex hormone, body, and facial hair growth promoter that can adversely affect the prostate as well as the hair located on the head.

Male pattern baldness is classified on the Hamilton-Norwood scale I-VII. It was previously believed that baldness was inherited from the maternal grandfather. Most likely, inheritance is technically “autosomal dominant with mixed penetrance.

More than half of men are affected by male pattern baldness by age 50, and baldness treatments are estimated to be a US $1 billion per year industry. Since the 1980s, drug therapy has increasingly become a realistic management option for baldness for men and women.

Increased understanding of the role of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in male and female pattern baldness has led to targeted intervention to prevent this hormone from acting on receptors in the scalp.

Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disorder also known as “spot baldness” that can result in hair loss ranging from just one location (Alopecia areata monolocularis) to every hair on the entire body (Alopecia areata universalis).

Biotin hair growth vitamins are essential for anyone concerned with hair loss and those who wish to re grow hair. Biotin is the primary constituent in the natural hair growth process – it’s essential to not only to grow new hair, but it’s also a major factor in the lifelong health of skin and nails.

Biotin is an element found in vitamin B and is also present in certain foods such as liver and eggs. However, it would require a massive quantity of liver and eggs to offer the 5mg. of biotin necessary to promote healthy hair and nails. A biotin supplement can supply the body with the appropriate amount of biotin needed for hair growth and to avoid hair loss without the extra calorie intake you would receive from eating more liver and eggs.

Biotin aids in the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins and fats. It is a crucial part of several enzymes and plays a major role in energy metabolism. The biggest advantage of biotin however, is its capability to strengthen hair and nails.

Popular hair growth treatments such as Minoxidil and Propecia recommend taking biotin supplements in addition to the products in order to increase positive results.

Foods with biotin include green peas, oats, soybeans, walnuts, brown rice and sunflower seeds. Foods such as egg yolks also have high volumes, however studies have shown Biotin binds easily to proteins, making them undeliverable to the body, which in turn creates biotin deficiency and may lead to hair loss.

To prevent hair loss, the body needs its proper intake of biotin. Supplements often include biotin as well as other vitamins and herbs that help the hair growth process.

Here is the biotin based hair growth supplement that I used to get my full head of hair back.

The damage per say cant actually be fixed but it can be grown out. There are oils that can stick the damaged hair strands together, but nothing will repair damaged hair as hair is dead!

Next you want to be sure to trim of the dead ends of your hair; you might also want to use a strengthening shampoo, o that is designed to prevent hair damage from heat damage.

next step is to use a natural Hot oil treatment such as Mira hair oil , it acts like a hair mask (you can get them here – its a strong herbal oil / conditioner that you leave in for like 10 minutes and it does magic t your damaged hair).

A good way to get your hair straight without damage is to use a blow or hair dryer with the concentrator on the this little trick reduces the hair damage caused by the excessive heat and will keep your hair healthier

Try to get a shampoo that will fix split ends such shampoos usually contain lots of wax that seal the damaged hair together, follow this with regular trims of your hair every 8 weeks is a good number until your hair grows back healthy

If you are worried about hair length use Mira hair oil, it will get your hair to grow faster You might also want to dye or color your hair less; you should always wait at least a month to color your hair again. Use Mira hair oil to get your hair moist , apply a little of the oil when your hair is a bit damp stop using hair spray to prevent more hair damages I can suggest a hair oil which is an all natural traditional formula that is made out of essential oils and extracts of herbs that nourish and quickly penetrate through the scalp, providing rich and deep nourishment to your hair follicles and your hair naturally gets strengthened… the oil will also detoxify your scalp of the toxins that stunt hair growth and cause hair damage. It also has a calming effect on your scalp; it will also reduce itching, stop dandruff and put an end to split ends. All I can say is give it a try it is my personal experience that this oil will give you longer thicker and more manageable hair… It is 100% natural oil with no side effects .

Lazer hair removal works by producing hear in the hair follicles which sends a signal to the hair follicle to go into the resting phase called (telogen). The laser is not like what you see on the movie screen as it is just a pulsating light that flashes every couple of seconds.

The hardest part about laser hair removal is targeting the hair shaft without damaging the melanin pigment on the surface of the skin. When the pigment of the skin is effected it can result in temporary pigment changes which will either lighten or darken your skin. Most doctors have several different types of lasers that pulsate a little differently to help accommodate your natural skin color.

Usually a set of 4-6 treatments are given over a period of four to eight week intervals depending on the treatment area. If after the normal 4-6 treatments there is still unwanted hair in the treatment area, subsequent treatments are administered over even longer intervals than the regular four to eight week intervals.

After only one treatment the hair in the treatment area is greatly reduced in the amount of thickness for a very long period of time. It is rare for the first treatment to get rid of all the hair altogether. Maintenance treatments are usually always required which are spaced out in long intervals. As with anything else, the frequency of maintenance treatments can vary considerably from person to person.

The reason you need more than just one treatment is because hair grows in cycles. After a laser hair removal treatment, hairs that are cycles to grow will grow because they were not present at the time of treatment. That’s why multiple treatments are the most effective because over time all the hair follicles in your skin will cycle, grow, and then get zapped at the time of treatment. By doing multiple treatments you can make sure that all your hair follicles are subjected to the laser treatment and are made dormant.

Females can be markedly different from males when it comes to hair fall because there are young women with hair loss. This is in contrast to the late age at which most men experience partial or full balding. This suggests that there can be a variety of reasons and causes behind falling hair in women. The reasons given below are only some of the possible causes of the condition in young women.

Hormonal Changes

Many women lose plenty of hair during the menopausal stage. This is because biological changes at this stage could lower the amount of estrogen in the body. Normally, estrogen balances testosterone levels which are a factor in hair loss. Although young women normally do not experience menopause yet, they are still likely to undergo some hormonal fluctuations at some point in their lives. Pregnancy or the period directly after that can also be a time for hormonal changes. Hence, women at this period in their lives may notice more falling hair than normal.

Stress

Stress can be brought about by a number of different factors. Mental and emotional stress for example could be triggered by difficult personal or professional problems. Physical or biological stress on the other hand can be the result of severe illness or strong medication. Whatever the kind and cause of stress, it has been generally linked to temporary hair loss. Female teens and young adults may have more than their fair share of difficult situations.

Tight Hair Styles

Women with long hair may opt to tie their locks. Frequently arranging hair in tight styles like braids, ponytails and corn rolls could pull some strands off. In some cases, these hairstyles may even injure the scalp and cause scarring that could lead to a permanent bald patch. It is always best to alternate tight styles with loose styles.

Young women with hair loss can also be affected by several other factors. These three however are among the major ones. In a lot of cases, hair problems in young women can be eased by a couple of treatment options.

Today's man has more choices than previous generations, but harsh and unnatural chemicals may not be the first choice for many men. Fortunately, there are several hair loss products that are based on traditional, natural treatments that may be just as effective. Male pattern baldness is often genetic and/or related to too much dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the follicles of the scalp. This is a specific type of testosterone that is only found in hair follicles. For years, saw palmetto oil has been used to treat prostate problems, and it has been found to have some beneficial effect in blocking the DHT that causes most male hair loss. A good multivitiman containing B5, folic acid, silica and biotin will help maintain hair health, but be sure to regulate your dosages carefully. Taking in excess of 30mg of zinc daily can cause a copper deficiency, often linked to hair loss. Before supplementing copper, restrict your intake of zinc, as copper can become toxic. Traditional asian medicine links hair loss to kidney malfunction and often prescribes a kidney tonic to correct male hair loss. Another ancient remedy is aromatherapy and the use of essential oils. A combination of rosemary, thyme, lavender and cedarwood was studied in Scotland and the results were encouraging. The essential oils were mixed with a carrier oil, either almond or grapeseed oil, warmed and then rubbed into the scalp. The treatment was continued with a warm head wrap. Used for several months, the tonic helped over 40% of the study's participants regrow hair. Perhaps the easiest natural treatment for male hair loss is a change of diet. Increasing foods rich in iron and silica seems to help strengthen the existing hair and encourage new growth. Consider adding foods rich in silica like potato and cucumber skins, peppers and sprouts. In today's overly medicated society, many are hesitant to try another prescription drug. You have a choice not to. Many of the natural hair loss treatments are pleasant and more often than not, have no side effects. You may be pleasantly surprised at the results.

The average person approximately loses fifty to one hundred hairs a day, and grows roughly fifty to a hundred hairs a day. When the rate of loss is the same as the rate of expansion, few folk worry for the health of their hair. Sadly, when the rate of loss surpasses the rate of growth, thinning of the hair occurs.

There are a few reasons why the rate of loss of hair would surpass the rate of growth. Illness and hereditary may be a few reasons.

Hair loss can be non-permanent and permanent. Non-permanent hair loss can result from a selection of medicines like chemical treatment. Hair loss could also happen when sickness changes the body’s chemistry. These are fixed when the medicine has run its course or the sickness has healed.

Stress may cause changes in the body’s chemistry as well, ensuing in hair loss for the duration of increased stress, and relenting when the body is relaxed. These types of alopecia are now not so much of a problem, because they are able to normally be corrected without treatment or medication beyond what the health condition requires.

Alopecia, a genetic condition caused by viruses or environmental stimulants. It is an autoimmune illness that causes hair loss at the follicle and ultimately leads to complete damage to the follicle. Alopecia can result in tiny hair loss patches, and complete loss of all hair on the body.

Pattern balding, both male and female, is the other sort of genetic alopecia. This happens when raised levels of DHT, or dihydrotestosterone, start to move to the hair follicles. DHT tends to attack only the follicles on the top of the head, leading to an ‘M’ formed hairline.

The course of treatment for a specific person depends on the kind of hair loss they have. An in-depth medical history and some blood tests can help a person and their doctor select the right alopecia cure for them.
